BRIDGES TO CONTEMPLATIVE LIVING June 28

Presenter: Sr. Chris Machado, SSS Wednesdays • 10:00 a.m.–12:00 noon June 28, 2017 Based partly on the writings of Thomas Merton, this series gently leads participants on a journey towards personal spiritual transformation and a more contemplative, peace-filled life. Bridges foster a proper relationship to God, self, others and nature. Each session offers an introduction to Merton and contemplative living through prayer, readings from Merton and other spiritual masters and questions for contemplative dialogue. You do not have to be a practitioner of contemplative prayer—just someone longing to live in a deeper and more enriching way. We are open to new members, so feel free to come and join us for a morning of meditation and faith-sharing. If you have any questions, feel free to call Sr. Chris at (818) 285-3354. Suggested Donation: $5.00 per session

INTERNATIONAL THOMAS MERTON SOCIETY CHAPTER GROUP July 16

Sundays, 2:00-4:00 pm January 15, February 19, March 19, April 23, May 21, June 18, July 16, 2017 Last January 31st (Thomas Merton’s birthday), we started a San Fernando Chapter of the International Thomas Merton Society (ITMS). ITMS Chapters are located all throughout our country and around the world. Their purpose is to promote the teachings of Thomas Merton, a Trappist monk who wrote and taught extensively on peace and non-violence. Our group has been doing book study using Merton’s autobiography, The Seven-Storey Mountain. We have had some marvelous discussions and are growing in our aquaintance with Merton and his life journey. In December, we will begin a study of one of Merton’s most popular books, New Seeds of Contemplation. Our hope is that in time, the Chapter will grow into the Thomas Merton Center for Non-violent Living, which will be a venue for education in non-violence, prayer, study and actions that promote a more peaceful way of living with oneself, others and the environment. The group meets from 2:00 to 4:00 on Sunday afternoons. If you are interested in being part of the Chapter Group or the Thomas Merton Center, please contact Sr. Chris at (818) 285-3354.
